Bloo Campbell was born in Port Augusta, South Australia, a town that bridges the outback and sea amidst the myall and saltbush plains. After high school, he joined the Royal Australian Air Force as an apprentice Motor Transport Fitter.  His 21 years in the RAAF took him to Malaysia, Townsville, Melbourne, Tindal (near Katherine) and Darwin. On leaving the RAAF 11 years ago, he became Fleet Manager of the Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Services (NTPFES), a job that has involved extensive travel throughout the Territory from Darwin to the Rock.

His dream of travelling to Antarctica was realised when he was selected for the 56th ANARE (Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition) as Plant Inspector at Casey Station. There he completed two summers and the winter of 2003.

After 450 days on the ice, he returned home to Darwin in March 2004 and resumed his position with the NTPFES.
