Helen Womack comes from the northeast coast of England, not far from the birthplace of Captain James Cook. She has been a foreign correspondent for over 20 years.

She began her career with Reuters, reporting from  Eastern Europe, the Soviet Union and Afghanistan. She is one of only three women featured in Reuters history of its reporting in the 20th century, “Frontlines – Snapshots of History”.

From 1990-2000, Helen was a Moscow correspondent of the British daily, The Independent. She is the author of “Undercover Lives – Soviet Spies in the Cities of the World” (Weidenfeld and Nicolson, 1998).

Helen visited Australia in 2001 and returned in 2002 to help launch BushMag as an outlet for Outback creativity.
