Meredith
Campbell
has lived at the base of the MacDonnell Ranges in Alice Springs for
more than half her life. Originally from Western Australia, she came
to the Alice in 1980 to work in the Centralian headquarters of the
Australian Labour Party. She soon shifted from politics to public
broadcasting and many Territorians remember her modulated tones gracing
the airwaves of the ABC during the eighties and nineties.
She
served a term on the local council from 1997 to 2000 and has had a
couple of bids for a seat in the Territory Parliament.
These days, Meredith is back in the classroom Monday to Friday
as a tutor at an Alice Springs high school. Most weekends are occupied
in the happy business of love. A civil marriage celebrant, Meredith
often conducts weddings at the nation’s spiritual heart, Uluru or
Ayers Rock, where many couples choose to tie the knot in the shadow
of the mighty monolith.
